Spirit Magic 1993 – 2013
The Winter 2013 season marked the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Ringwood Junior Domestic Competition. The competition has since evolved into the Greater Eastern Basketball Conference with three of the founding Ringwood clubs from that original competition still going strong.
One of those clubs, Spirit Magic, celebrated our 20th anniversary as a club with a family night in mid 2013 that saw more than 450 current and former players, coaches and families gather to mark this significant milestone.
During the event, life memberships were awarded for outstanding commitment to the club over many years:
- 17 years as a committee member since 1996, including periods as President, Coaching Coordinator and 10 years as Registration Coordinator
- Long term coach of more than 25 teams over many seasons
- 10 years as a committee member since 2003, including periods as Coaching Coordinator and Team Selection Coordinator
- Long term coach of 35 teams over 15 seasons
- 12 years as Club Treasurer since 2001
Long serving coaches were also recognised for their dedication:
Chris Ayton, Peter Barnard, Joe Egan
James Fox, Paul Hayes, Terry Jones
Tony Kitching, Leon McKenna, Anne McMaster
and Greg Skien
As part of the anniversary celebrations, every current player was presented with a new warm up top to mark their participation in this landmark season.
Spirit Magic currently has almost 300 players in 38 boys, girls and mixed teams in age groups from Under 8 to Under 18, playing in the GEBC every Saturday making it one of the largest clubs in the competition.
